What is AB on FB?

AB on FB is an independent publication launched in 2022 by Austin Burlage. AB on FB provides broad college football analysis through newsletters, articles, podcasts, and videos. If you're interested in college football as a whole, particularly the X's and O's, then you're in the right place!

Who is Austin Burlage?

Hey, I'm Austin.

Live from the Music City Bowl on 104.5 The Zone's The Buck Reising Show.

I was born in Knoxville, Tennessee to two graduates of the University of Tennessee. I spent my childhood in Knoxville before our family moved to Wisconsin for my father's job. Wisconsin has been my home ever since.

How did you get started with college football writing?

Just before the 2017 college football season kicked off I started a Twitter account and gave it the handle @Power_T_Tape. I had a personal Twitter account at the time, but many of my followers (mostly friends from where I live in Wisconsin) made it clear that they weren't interested in my detailed analysis of Tennessee football flooding their timeline on Saturdays. In hindsight I probably should have kept it up and let them mute or unfollow me. Now that I think about it, I'm sure many of them did! Anyway, for some reason I thought a separate Twitter account would be a better approach than continuing to post from my personal one. So, with my new, anonymous account I began sending out threads of tweets consisting of screenshots, gifs, videos, and diagrams to practically no one.

The success of @Power_T_Tape among Vols fans was due in large part to some generous retweets and guest appearances on podcasts. My first chance writing for an established site came in 2018 when Terry Lambert offered me an opportunity to write for Rocky Top Talk, SB Nation's team site dedicated to Tennessee. It was extremely brave of Terry, considering I was an internet stranger with no background in journalism. This was a fantastic opportunity, but I still had to make a living. Initially this meant continuing my practice as a physical therapist (I received my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2018). Later I followed my wife into the real estate world. That might seem like an odd move, but it was perfect for our family. I realized during my time writing for Rocky Top Talk that covering college football is what I most enjoy, and I wanted to pursue it as a career. After careful thought I decided the next step toward achieving that goal was the creation of AB on FB.

Are you moving everything you write behind a paywall?

No, not everything. I'm offering both free and paid subscription plans if you would like to support my coverage. Full details on pricing and the benefits offered within each tier can be found in the portal, which you can access either by clicking on the floating icon in the bottom right of your screen or at this link!

How many emails will I get each week?

This will depend on your subscription level. I'm committed to ensuring content delivery is convenient for you but not overwhelming. If you ever do feel like it's too much there will be an option to unsubscribe from emails without cancelling your entire subscription. This would stop the emails, but allow you to continue to access the content relative to your membership tier. All content will be archived on the site in case you miss one or want to revisit it later.

It looks like you give Tennessee extra coverage. Why is that?

As I'm sure you can tell by now I'm a Tennessee Volunteers fan. Yeah, one of those people. Each week I spend extra time analyzing Tennessee. This work is included as a thank you to Tennessee fans for following me since I started @Power_T_Tape.

Why do you occasionally comment on injuries?

Injuries are an unfortunate aspect of any sport, especially when contact is involved. Fans enjoy learning about how injuries might affect their favorite team. How long will a player be out? What does the rehabilitation process look like? Is this injury a concern long-term? I'm able to answer these types of questions because I have my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and maintain a current license. I don't think there is any value in speculating on injuries by looking at a replay. Coaches are rightfully very secretive regarding injuries to avoid giving the opponent a competitive advantage. I'll never guess about an injury, but if a specific injury is reported I'll do my best to provide useful insight.

Do you have any resources for learning more about football?

I might get asked this question more than any other. Fans love to learn about the game. For subscribers to the all-FBS tier I will have a library of books that I recommend. I'll be doing regular book reports, giveaways, and author interviews whenever possible. If you're looking for more information let me know and I'd be happy to suggest additional resources. If you want to know the absolute best way to learn about football I'd encourage you to get involved with coaching in your local community!

What's the best way to contact you?

The two best ways to get in touch with me for any reason are via the contact page on this site or by direct message on Twitter.

Can I cancel my AB on FB subscription?

Absolutely. While I hope this doesn't happen I certainly understand. You're able to cancel your subscription at any time. Payments are managed through a third party integration with Stripe. Please keep in mind that to make any adjustments to your paid subscription you'll need to be logged in to the site.
