Perfect Saturday: Week 8, 2022
Good morning!
Welcome to Week Eight of the college football season. I'm so thankful that you are taking some time to start your Saturday with this newsletter. The mission of the Perfect Saturday newsletter is to give you three must-watch games. The catch is that I only select one game for each major timeslot: early afternoon, late afternoon, and evening. That way, you can plop yourself on the couch from noon until nine confident that you're watching the most interesting games of the day.
Maybe you're the type that has seven TV's going at once so you can consume everything? That's me! Okay, seven is an exaggeration but you get the idea. This newsletter can still help guide your setup. Which game should get priority on your largest display? I'll let you know!
Last week the three game picks were decided by an average of slightly more than eight points. That's a little higher than I would like, but it's somewhat misleading. Minnesota was within one score of Illinois heading into the fourth quarter. Illinois has an excellent defense this year, and they were more or less shutting Minnesota down. Any hopes the Gophers had of a comeback were dashed when starting quarterback Tanner Morgan was injured and needed to be carted to the locker room. Two Illini fourth quarter field goals put the game out of reach. Mississippi State and Kentucky were also close deep into the fourth quarter. An Emmanuel Forbes pick-six halfway through the quarter cut the Wildcat lead to only three. However, Kentucky responded only five plays later with a touchdown run and held on to their 10 point lead for the remainder of the game.
Sandwiched between these two games, though, was the game of the year. Alabama and Tennessee went back and forth in a shootout before the Vols hit a game-winning field goal at the buzzer – I still can't figure out how that kick cleared the uprights. Many of you reading this newsletter know me from my Twitter and are Tennessee fans. Every week I write a detailed pre-game and post-game article on Tennessee's games for paid subscribers.
If you've been curious about what those look like then you're in luck! I've unlocked the Alabama post-game article for anyone to view. You can check it out right here:

I hope you enjoyed that article. If it's something you might like to see hit your inbox twice a week – in addition to offseason content – please consider becoming a paid subscriber.
Alright, let's see if we can pick a little bit better this week. Here are your Week Eight Perfect Saturday picks.
