Postgame: Ball State at Tennessee

Postgame: Ball State at Tennessee
WR Jalin Hyatt Celebrates a Touchdown Grab (Andrew Ferguson/Tennessee Athletics)

New year, same offense. The Vols offense exploded on Thursday night putting up 59 points and almost 570 yards. This is the type of performance Tennessee fans have come to expect against less talented Group-of-5 teams. It's a far cry from wins like 28-19 over Ohio or 17-13 over UMass in the not so distant past. The Tennessee defense was stout as well, forcing three turnovers including a Tamarion McDonald interception on the first play of the game. Importantly, a huge number of players on the roster received valuable game reps to aid in their development.

There was some great, some good, and some not so good. We'll take a look at it all in this postgame breakdown.

But, before we do I just want to give you a quick update on the newsletter posting schedule so you know what to expect. In a normal week this postgame breakdown newsletter should go out on Sunday evenings to members of the Touchdown tier. Of course, I'll let you know of any changes to that schedule. Occasionally I will travel on Sunday's which might push the postgame breakdown into Monday morning. This week was obviously abnormal between Tennessee playing on Thursday, five straight days of games, and a holiday weekend. So, you are getting the postgame breakdown a little later than you usually would.

Alright, with that housekeeping item out of the way, let's take a look at what happened in Tennessee's beat down of Ball State!
